The 1st Annual Vegtoberfest is a FREE fall festival to celebrate healthy, sustainable and compassionate food choices and lifestyles.

Vegtoberfest will be held at Riverside Park, 1800 Covington Street, Baltimore, MD from 12:00-5:00pm on Sunday, October 9, 2011.

Want to help out with this exciting event? We want you!! Volunteers are needed to help with preparation, promotion, and many on-the-ground aspects of this festival, including greeting, security, set-up, and clean-up. Would you like to enter the vegan chili cook-off?

Do you make the best vegan chil? Do all your friends and family tell you so?! Enter the 1st ever Vegan Chili Cook-off in the Mid-Atlantic region at Vegtoberfest! The judges will be the attendees of Vegtoberfest (who will taste and anonymously vote during the festival). Chefs will be stationed with their chili at our cook-off tent from 12:00-2:00pm, so be sure you can attend and proudly promote your chili during that time. Festival attendees will sample and anonymously vote for the tastiest chili!

NEW!!! - You may enter the Vegan Chili Cook-off as a team, organization, or company! Would your organization, business, or a few friends like to compete, and win fame as vegan chili champions? Sign right up!

We'll announce the winner/s at 2:00pm, and present the chef/s with certificates and adulation on the festival stage.

In order to enter the cook-off, you must let us know in advance and bring a signed copy of the terms. Sorry, no day-of entry allowed. Deadline to enter is October 1st.

TO ENTER THE COOK-OFF:

To enter, email info@openthecages.org with the following info:

-Your full name, and name of your team/company/organization if you are entering as a group

-Best email address to reach you

-Best phone number to reach you

-Your postal address

-Name of your culinary creation (ie Zelda's Zesty Vegan Chili!)

We will email or postal mail you the rules and details of the cook-off.  All the details will be in the guidelines, but in short: All entries must be 100% vegan, all ingredients must be disclosed, you must follow food safety and sanitation procedures specified in the guidelines, and you must prepare a gallon of vegan chili for festival attendees to sample. A signed copy of the rules must be presented along with your entry the day of the festival, in order to compete. We can accept a limited number of contestants, and will contact you to confirm your participation. Good luck and happy cooking!
